The Integrated Child Protection Scheme (ICPS) is a centrally sponsored scheme aimed at building a protective environment for children in difficult circumstances, as well as other vulnerable children, through Government-Civil Society Partnership
Child Protection is about protecting children from or against any perceived or resl danger or risk to their life, their personhood and childhood. It is about ansuring thst no child falls out of the social security and safety net. While protecting is a right of every child , some children are more vulnerable than others and need special attention. The government recognizes these children as ‘çhildren in difficult circumstance’. Failure to ensure children’s right to protection adversely affects all other rights of the child. Failure to protect children from issues such as voilence in school, child labour, harmful traditional practices, child marruage, child abuse, the absence of parental care and commercial sexual exploitation among others, means failure in fulfilling both the constitutional and International commitments towards children. Hence as per the government guidelines DCPU is set up in every district. Accordingly since Nov.1 2011 DCPU is functioning in Gadag district.
District Child Protection Unit is headed by the District Magistrate. Presently Shri. N.S. Prasannakumar, IAS is the Chairman of DCPU, Shri. S.B. Shettennavar Chief Excutive ofiicer is the co- Chairman, S.P, DHO, DD WCD, DSWO, DDPI, NGO are the members of the committee and District Child Protection Officer is the secretary.
