Safer Internet Day

Safer Internet Day – February 11

Together for a Better Internet.

What is Safer Internet Day?

Safer Internet Day (SID) is an international event observed every year in February to promote safe, responsible, and positive use of digital technology for all, especially children and young people. The initiative aims to create awareness about cyber threats, online safety, and responsible internet behavior.

The day is coordinated globally by the Insafe/INHOPE network and is supported by the European Commission. It encourages people to work together for a better and safer digital world.

Why is Safer Internet Day Important?

With the increasing use of the internet in daily life, cyber threats like hacking, phishing, identity theft, cyberbullying, misinformation, and online scams are also rising. Many individuals, especially children, are unaware of the risks they face online. Safer Internet Day highlights these dangers and promotes best practices for internet safety.

Key Objectives of Safer Internet Day

  1. Educating Users – Spreading awareness about cyber threats and safe internet practices.
  2. Protecting Privacy – Encouraging users to safeguard their personal and financial information.
  3. Preventing Cyber Crimes – Helping individuals recognize and avoid cyber threats.
  4. Empowering Children & Parents – Teaching kids about online risks and guiding parents on child safety controls.
  5. Encouraging Digital Responsibility – Promoting ethical online behavior and responsible social media usage.
